|
A dog lover from indeed very
early age! My parents had a
special Perdigueiro (Toy) and
several equally special German
Shepherds as pet family members.
Having been bitten several times
in childhood by dogs outside the
household, I have however
continued to love these
wonderful companions.
I am a Portuguese Canadian
living in Portugal since July
1998. I did not have my own dogs
prior to 1999, because my
professional commitments did not
enable me to have four legged
family members, as I worked
abroad in various countries for
over a decade. Retrievers being
my favourite - especially
Labrador, Flat Coated, Golden
and Curly Coated Retrievers - I
adopted a Flat Coated Retriever
male in January 1999. Shortly
after, I decided to get
companion for Jimmy and so I
acquired another Flat, a
Labrador and slowly, other Flats
& Labs joined the family. |

|
I settled and was adamant to develop a “doggy” project and
spend the rest of my life amongst dogs, for
life without them is just not the same!
|
|
|
|
Soon
after, I began to attend dog shows
frequently and made a few good friends.
Subsequently, I entered with my Flats. Kari
& Lucy joined the family; my two very first
Lab females which proved to be healthy
(hips, elbows and eyes). In addition, Bisca
& Dougal, a couple of Flatcoated Retrievers
also joined the troop (at different stages,
of course). After testing my Lab girls (Kari
& Lucy) and having excellent results (HD
A-A, ED 0-0, Eyes cleared), I decided to
breed from them, responsibly! The difficult
task upon me was to elect a stud, good
producer, tested (hips, elbows & eyes) with
excellent results, statistics and from
renowned breeder & blood lines. |

After much
consideration, I found Loresho Ozzie.
To cut a long story short – including a
visit to Portugal from Annaliisa Harjukari (Loresho
Labradors) and me subsequently visiting
Finland - Lucy had a litter (AI from frozen
semen) Sired by Loresho Ozzie and
Kari had a litter (AI from fresh chilled
semen) Sired by Loresho Liberty,
these being my first litters under the FCI
recognised prefix MARIFIELD. Very promising
show quality youngsters from both litters!
Kept 3 puppies from each litter for my
breeding project (crazy I know, but no doubt
many of you have taken similar challenges in
your lives as breeders!!); all proved to be
healthy (hips, elbows and eyes); other
siblings have also excellent scoring
results. A true blessing! |

|
As I breed primarily for myself,
I now have several yellow,
chocolate and black Labs (boys
and girls), as I have kept
promising off‑spring from my
litters. Marifield had no
litters in 2005 and it proved to
be a very sad year for us as we
lost a very dear, special, truly
loved and greatly missed family
member Golden Retriever male
named Remmy. Our beloved Remmy
went to heaven way too soon in
life (he was only 7 years old
when he went to Rainbow Bridge).
On a happier note, an equally
special yellow Labrador male
named Johnny Be Good (not my
breeding but a Gentleman with a
typical Lab temperament and an
expression to melt an iceberg)
was blessed with the opportunity
to live with a very special
family - Diane, Nigel and Simba
(GSD F) - just 10 minutes away
from us. I must say that I have
been blessed with the
opportunity to place all my
puppies to wonderful permanent
loving responsible true dog
lover families, who make the
time to keep in touch regularly.
Even families from Finland make
the effort to keep in touch,
send photos and emails with
updates, which means a lot to
me! |

My goal is to breed typical Dual Purpose
Labrador & Flatcoated Retrievers (sound
temperament, good working abilities and
beautiful in anatomy/ conformation) in all
colours recognised by the FCI.
I am adamant to build a sound, responsible
program for the well-being and soundness of
the breeds I love so dearly. I have great
faith and hope in my projects.
This is not just an occupation. These
are a heartfelt commitment and life passion! |
|
|
|
My occupation
as an assistant/ veterinary nurse is highly
fulfilling. All of this is very time
consuming, but I enjoy every minute of it! I
work and literally live for my dogs and love
it! I would not wish for my life to be any
different! My small but heartfelt doggy
projects have been in demand. Both doggies
and owners are happy and… wagging tail! |

I have been
blessed with the support of friends and
family. Additionally blessed with the
expertise and friendship of wonderful
professionals, such as Stephen Wright BVMS,
MRCVS (a “Scottish lad”), Dr. Tiago
Carrapiço & Drª Ana Reis (dedicated &
professional Veterinarians), Hugo Soares (professional
instructor; Hugo must have been a dog in his
previous life; he is wonderful with the dogs),
Samuli Miettinen from Finland (who designed
& created Marifield’s very first website),
Tiago Fortuna (a wiz and dedicated webmaster
professional), Annaliisa Harjukari from
Loresho Labradors (my very special
mentor),Maria Swanljung from Bubbling
Labradors (who, sadly, is now in
heaven, possibly in Rainbow Bridge
surrounded by the 4 legged folks she
dedicated her life to), Jaana Railamaa from
Adventurer’s Kennel, Anu Honkapirtti from
Mallorn’s Kennel, Laura Reich from Lor-Al
Labradors (all renowned Labrador breeders
from Finland and USA), Lena Hägglund from
O’Flanagan Kennel (my very special mentor),
Sijkje Winter from Flat Castle’s Kennel,
Helle Nielsen from Starworkers Kennel (all
renowned Flatcoated breeders from Sweden,
Netherlands & Denmark), to whom I will
always be indebted and so very grateful for
all the knowledge and kind willingness to
co-operate, at all times. |
